Though she plays a violence-happy Hamptonite on Revenge, actress Emily VanCamp was very upset and disturbed by the violence that took place in Santa Monica this weekend when a gunman opened fire killing five.

The gunman, John Zawahri, killed five innocent victims near Santa Monica College before police were able to kill him in the school’s library. The incident spoke to the 27-year-old actress, who was quick to send her love and support to the victims and community.

“To those affected by the shootings in Santa Monica, my heart, prayers and thoughts are all with you,” she tweeted on June 8.

In the wake of the shooting, Emily spoke out in support of gun control.

“When the Obama administration delivers a reasonable solution for Gun control and it’s shut down and now this? Again? Disgusting. Shameful,” she tweeted.

And to clarify to some fans who might not understand that she was supportive of President Obama’s gun control plan, she tweeted, “My previous tweet was meant to shed light in a positive way on Obama and his thoughts on gun control. We have to get rid of this mess!”

She continued to tweet her concerns saying, “No more pointless gun usage in this country. Background checks ARE necessary. A very solid compromise was reached and yet still no resolve?”
