A major issue many Revenge fans had with the show’s sophomore season was that several plotlines (yes, we’re talking about The Initiative) completely detracted from Emily Thorne’s (Emily VanCamp) revengenda. Instead of focusing on destroying the people who framed her father, Ems was caught up in love triangles, the return of her biological mother, and looking out for her new half-sister Charlotte Grayson, among other things.

But new showrunner Sunil Nayar confirms to TVLine that Emily’s weekly takedowns that we loved so much back in Season 1, are making a comeback in Season 3. However, this time around the takedowns will take place over several episodes and each one will also reveal more about our complicated protagonist.

“We’re going to use them to explore who Emily is a little bit more than we’ve had a chance to in the past,” Sunil says. “We’re 44 hours into the show now. She’s experienced so many different things, culminating in the revelation of who [she really] is to Jack. We’re examining not just who she is and what happiness means to her, but what are the ramifications of her plans are.”

And while we already know the immediate impact Emily’s season-ending reveal will have on Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler), it will alter Ems as well. “Now there’s someone who knows. That’s going to have an impact on Emily. So the takedowns are still going to be wonderful, but they’re also going to have a deeper meaning and a deeper effect,” Sunil concludes.

Are you happy that the weekly takedowns will be back for Season 3, or do you think Revenge should try something completely different?
