We were shocked when it was announced a few months ago that Ashley Madekwe (Ashley Davenport) was axed from Revenge Season 3, and the premiere confirmed our worst fears. Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) and Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) sent the Brit packing after Ems was able to pin the news of Conrad’s Huntington’s disease leaking to the media on her.

New showrunner Sunil Nayar (who replaced Mike Kelley) was ultimately responsible for Ash’s early exit, but he had nothing but flattering things to say about her. “She’s such a wonderful actress, and we kept trying to find the place for her in the show,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

As for why he chose to write her character off, Sunil explains, “She become intricate to so many storylines, but we never really found a way to make one of her own. For us to kind of try to find other iterations to what Ashley Davenport can do in this world just seemed a little bit selfish. It was too late, two seasons in, to recreate her completely.”

We think the writers totally could have found a storyline for Ashley if they wanted to (there was so much left to explore!) but alas, the decision was not up to us.

Still, Sunil was happy with her send off. “I thought it came out perfectly,” he declared. “We wanted to give Ashley a really legitimate sendoff. The way we thought would be the most fun is to make her worthy enough of these two women who can’t stand each joining forces to do it and to see how wonderful Emily is at what she does because she essentially manipulates Victoria into joining her takedown. We loved the idea of the two of them standing there, watching Ashley walk off.”

But since Ash was just bound for the mother country, Sunil has said he’s open to the possibility of bringing her character back in the future.

Were you happy with Ashley’s exit, or do you think the writers took the easy way out? Sound off below!
