3 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Gabriel Mann’s New Movie Chavez
Filming for the second season of Revenge doesn't start until July 16, but actor Gabriel Mann has managed to keep himself busy with the independent film Chavez.
The movie follows the life of Cesar Chavez, the famous Mexican civil rights activist and labor organizer. Gabriel plays the (potentially evil) role of John Giumarra Jr., who opposes Chavez’s United Farm Workers Organizing Committee.
And while we can’t wait to see Gabriel in a villainous role, here are some more reasons to check out the film (set to come out later this year).
1. It’s Directed By Mexican Actor Diego Luna
If you don’t recognize him from his roles in Milk or Y Tu Mama Tambien, you may remember his sexy performance in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Diego Luna is a well-known Mexican actor who is starting to dabble in directing films.
He’s already directed a 2007 documentary on Chavez.
2. It Stars Rosario Dawson
Ever wonder why Gabriel Mann looks so familiar? He was everyone’s favorite heartthrob in 2001’s Josie and the Pussycats and jammed to Rosario Dawson’s band! This film is the perfect reunion.
3. It’s Being Filmed by a Mexican Film Company
Though this decision was slightly controversial due to the bias towards Chavez in Mexico, Diego Luna’s Mexican film company, Canana Films, will be producing the film.
According to the Los Angeles Times, “The filmmakers make no bones about choosing the positive aspects of Chavez's life and not the darker side, such as his authoritarian tendencies, but they insist the film is not simplistic hagiography.”
We can’t wait to see Gab’s acting skills at their finest!
Will you go see Chavez?
