For the majority of Revenge Season 2, we’ve watched Emily Thorne and Aiden Mathis’s tormented romance unfold. But according to a new spoiler from TVLine, Aiden’s about to take a step back in light of recent events.

“He’s been [put] on the backburner purely because of [Emily]‘s emotional state,” actor Barry Sloane told the site. “One thing he knows about her is that she needs space. And because of Amanda dying, she’s going to be putting [her] guard back up, not allowing people into her life so much.”

Barry has already signed on to be a series regular so we know he’ll be around for the foreseeable future, but what real role does he have now that his sister is dead and his girlfriend has dived off the deep end?

We all know that Ems won’t be particularly warm in the aftermath of Amanda’s death, and, chances are, she’ll push everyone away. Similar to Riley Finn and Buffy Summers, Aiden doesn’t really have a purpose without Emily so how will the writers be able to keep this character afloat?

Do you think Aiden should continue on the show or is it time for him to bow out gracefully (or in a major drama-fest)? Tell us your thoughts below!
