James Tupper may not hog the most screen time on Revenge, but as David Clarke, the father of vendetta-driven Emily Thorne, formerly Amanda Clarke (Emily VanCamp), the actor’s convinced he’s got the best gig of all.
“My scene partner is Madeleine Stowe. She got nominated for a Golden Globe this year, and my only scenes with her are in bed,” Tupper told Wetpaint Entertainment recently at an ABC All-Star Party.
Clearly he’s forgetting their scenes on the beach.
“But after that, we rest in bed,” he joked. “No, she’s amazing. She’s a real movie star.”
While he trusts his co-star implicitly, Tupper recently approached creator Mike Kelley with some doubts about where the storyline was going.
“We just shot an episode, and I could not believe the amount of peril that every single character was in, to the extent that I went and talked to Mike Kelley, and I was like, 'You can’t do this,'” said James.
“And he goes, ‘No, no. It’s pretty much downhill all the way from here to the end of the season. You’re going to see.’ It seems like so much in an episode, and he’s like, ‘I know, but it just keeps building.’ It’s amazing! He’s got it worked out in his head, and he’s got a great, big, gigantic, dramatic brain in there.”
That’s bad news for Emily, whose plan to bring down the Grayson clan is in full force.
“I think her past starts to really catch up with her,” James noted. “There’s a Chinese proverb that says if you seek revenge, dig two graves. And I feel like she’s beginning to fall into hers because the lie that she’s living is really starting to catch up with her, and there’s really dramatic choices.”
“We don’t make out,” he laughs. “Relax, everybody, relax.”
Are you kidding? With an inevitable showdown, relaxed is the last thing we are.
