Bet you didn’t know... Before she became famous, Madeleine pretended to be a reporter just so she could meet John Travolta.
Veteran actress Madeleine Stowe grew up in Eagle Rock, a working-class suburb of L.A. She trained to be a concert pianist for eight years (from age 10 to 18), but she gave it up when her teacher passed away. She was discovered in the late ’70s at the Beverly Hills theater Solaris, where she did volunteer performances when not busy with her cinema and journalism studies at USC.
After a decade of mostly forgettable roles, she started landing juicy parts opposite some of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars. Madeleine’s movie credits include roles in Stakeout (with Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez), Revenge (with Kevin Costner), Unlawful Entry (with Kurt Russell), The Last of the Mohicans (with Daniel Day-Lewis), China Moon (with Ed Harris), 12 Monkeys (with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt), Playing by Heart (with Sean Connery and Ryan Phillippe), The Proposition (with Kenneth Branagh), Impostor (with Gary Sinise), We Were Soldiers (with Mel Gibson), and Avenging Angelo (with Sylvester Stone).
After a brief hiatus from movie-making, she’s hit the small screen as the imperious Victoria Grayson on Revenge.
Madeleine has been married to Private Practice actor Brian Benben, whom she met while filming Gangster Wars, since the early ‘80s. The couple has one daughter, May, born in 1996. When not filming, they spend their time on their ranch in Texas.
