True Blood Review: Season 6, Episode 9 — “Life Matters”
True Blood Season 6 seems like it just started, but the HBO show headed into its penultimate episode tonight (August 11) with Season 6, Episode 9 : "Life Matters.” Was it a bloody brilliant second-to-last ep? Read on for Wetpaint Entertainment's review, and then rate it yourself below.

Given the intense promo, we knew that things were going to be crazy. However, nothing could have prepared us for all of the blood. Buckets of it, really. From vamps torturing doctors to Sookie literally chomping at her own arm to save Warlow, no one was safe — in fact, Eric actually said, “go forth and kill the humans” upon his arrival to Vamp Camp.
The most interesting part of this episode was the balance. We saw one of the goriest deaths ever when Eric ripped off a guy’s penis and then Bill stomped his face in (separately, not a team-up) followed by Terry Bellefleur’s funeral scene. It was strange to watch moving eulogies, tear-jerker flashbacks, and then vampires going insane and murdering people all at once. But hey, that’s True Blood for you!
When it came to Terry’s funeral, Andy’s speech was sweet, as was Sam’s, but the three that were most memorable were Lafayette’s fun one (and a flashback in which he teaches Terry to make french fries by twerking), Sookie’s recollection of what Terry first thought about Arlene (“prettiest woman I ever saw … makes coming out of the woods not so scary”) and how “not many people can say there were loved like that,” and finally, Arlene remembering how he was her “rock.” Be right back, sobbing.
Aside from the funeral, this episode was all about saving people. Eric saved Jason, Jason saved Sarah (in a shocking moment), and Pam and Eric delivered a moment that hit us in all the feels (“You take such good care of me,” she said post-rescue). Oh, and Bill let everyone feed on his faerie-tinted blood so no one would die.
Though Sarah tried to make everyone burn, the only one who actually burst into flames was her ex-husband, Steve Newlin, who was killed by Eric Northman. His final words were, “I love you, Jason Stackhouse!” We couldn’t imagine a better exit for him.
While we appreciate everyone being saved, it seemed a little too happy. At the last minute, Bill was saved by Jessica and her boyfriend James, and the ep ended with everyone holding hands, skipping, singing, and dancing as they went to celebrate. Umm, are we in an alternate universe?
All in all, it was a decent episode, and hopefully the finale will really bring things home. We give it 4/5 stars!
