Teen Choice Awards Are Rigged?! Stars Reveal Truth, Angry Fans Lash Out (VIDEO)
The Teen Choice Awards is not the only show where the celebs seem to know in advance that they won (that’s why they show up, along with prepared reactions/speeches), but last night some of the stars themselves shared the cold, hard truth — and the fans were not happy.
The Washington Postfollowed the action Sunday night, saying the “rigged” drama started after YouTuber Tyler Oakley won the award for Choice Web Star: Male. Vine star Cameron Dallas had won Choice Viner earlier in the night, and shared some tweets that were later deleted, but first screen-grabbed by fans:
Vine star Matt Espinosa added, “Basically they picked the people almost 6 days before voting was done and used all of us for promotion." Vine's Carter Reynolds wrote, “#TCAs is rigged,” then added, “#TCAS2014 used all of us for promotion. What a joke.”
He also used the hashtag “#TeensDontHaveaChoiceAwards,” which was trending worldwide. You should check it out, if you haven't already, to see the fan reactions. A lot of teens are feeling betrayed right now!
Maybe it shouldn't be a surprise to fans that the show is "rigged," since there's a disclaimer on the screen during the show. Gossip Cop shared a fan's photo of the fine print, which states: “Winners for the Teen Choice Awards are determined using the votes cast on TeenChoiceAwards.com. Votes are tabulated electronically and winners are determined based on the nominees in each category with the highest number of eligible votes. [Production company] Teenasaurus Rox reserves the right to choose the winner from the top four vote getters. The Olay Fresh Effects Breakout Star Award and Ultimate Choice Award were both chosen by Teenasaurus Rox.”
So they are openly stating that they reserve the right to choose the winner from the top four vote-getters — but according to the stars themselves they don’t seem to even wait for the voting to be complete to declare the victor. Katniss Everdeen would not approve of this game.
Are you upset that the Teen Choice Awards does this, or are you not surprised at all?
