Betty Will Join the Dark Side For Jughead in ‘Riverdale’ Season 2 Trailer
Sadly, Season 2 has been revealed to be a precarious one for the young couple.
Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart reveal what’s in store for their characters in Season 2, just as a new trailer is released.
Bughead almost took their relationship to the next level in the Season 1 finale.
They were this close.
But a sudden knock at the door interrupted their romantic evening.
And that’s when everything changed for these two.
The late-night visitors were the Southside Serpents coming to thank Juggie for sticking to his father’s side.
Jughead gladly accepted their jacket, much to Betty’s dismay.
Cole admits Jughead’s decision to join the gang may be a huge mistake in Season 2.
"It changes his relationship with every character on the show,” he reveals, via ComicBook.com.
“Season 2 is very much a narrative between the North Side and the South Side of Riverdale, and the brewing tension in feeling agency-less.”
“It’s going to force all the characters to pick a side and Jughead stands in a very very compromising position with one foot on the North and one foot on the South,” he continues.
“Having to figure out what he’s going to do and what side he’s going to pick is going to be what informs his relationship with every other character."
Despite the obvious danger to his relationship, Cole says Jughead can’t help but act irrational sometimes.
It’s in his genes.
"In many ways the kids mirror the parents, and Jughead is being dealt a hand of cards that is going to force his action," he says.
Remember, Jughead is on his own at the end of Season 1 no thanks to his father’s imprisonment.
Lili confirms their characters’ doomed relationship.
“There's a definite rift in Riverdale. There's a civil war between the Southside and the Northside,” she tells Seventeen.
“And Jughead being on the Southside and Betty's on the Northside, it becomes a bit of a Romeo and Juliet situation.”
“Which in a way is very romantic because when they do see each other, it's kind of like a little reunion and there's some really beautiful romantic moments between the two of them that I think a lot of people are going to die over.”
That separation doesn’t mean Betty won’t try her best to stick by her man.
In fact, she might get into some trouble herself.
“I think with Jughead mixing up in the Serpents leads Betty inevitably into that world. It's like she doesn't have a choice. It's her boyfriend. She's going to go where he goes at this point,” she teases.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, Joaquin is not related to either one of them. The actress quickly shuts that fan theory down.
“Maybe there was a romance between Alice and F.P., but Joaquin went on that bus to San Junipero and he's just going, sadly for Kevin,” she says.
