Rob Lowe feels bad for Justin Bieber. Not because of the arrest, the DUI, or the deposition from you-know-where… but because his fans clearly do not care about the music he works so hard to release. Wait, what?
It’s true: Rob thinks that Justin’s deepest secret is the fact that he’s well aware that his Beliebers aren’t there for the music — but it isn’t necessarily Justin’s fault. Rob says it could happen to anyone in his position. And after being in the public eye as a teen, he totally gets it.
“I have tremendous empathy … He makes really good music,” Rob tells Oprah in a recent interview, via Entertainmentwise. “But I think he knows the dark secret. And the dark secret is 80 percent of his audience doesn’t give a sh—t about the music.”
So what are they there for? Justin’s adorable baby face, the shirtless Instagram posts, and maybe even the exorbitant tattoos. Rob supposes this “bums him out,” but it’s not like Justin can do anything about it. Fangirls (and boys) gonna fan.
“It has nothing to do with what he’s doing as an artist,” Rob adds. “He is the guy who is standing in front in a moment that they’re going through a developmental thing. It’s natural, it’s all great, but if it wasn’t him, it would be somebody else, like it was me.”
What do you think, Beliebers: Do you have a greater appreciation for Justin’s tunes, or is it all about the six pack?
