Robert Downey Jr.’s 20-Year-Old Son Enters Rehab for Pills: Report
Here's some sad news about Robert Downey Jr.'s son, if it's indeed true.
According to a story that originated with the National Enquirer— which is an admittedly shaky source for news, to be sure — the Iron Man star's 20-year-old son Indio has entered rehab to help get him off of prescription pain meds.
What makes this story sound like it could be legit is that Indio's mother and Robert's ex-wife, Deborah Falconer, is quoted in it. "He was not addicted," Deborah clarifies about Indio. "He was taking one pill a day."
Deborah says that Indio is getting “holistic, natural, and orthomolecular” therapy. “We are hoping to do it the homeopathic way rather than with medications,” she continues. “He’s being treated with vitamin supplements and organic foods.”
Deborah — an actress, singer, and former model — married Robert in 1992, and they had Indio in 1993. Their marriage got rocky in the mid-'90s with RDJ's myriad drug arrests, and he spent a year in jail before finally cleaning up. He and Deborah were officially divorced in 2004, and he married current wife Susan Levin in 2005.
As you can imagine, this has reportedly been a very tough situation for Robert. "This is a nightmare for Robert because his boy has never been in trouble before," reveals a source. "He’s praying for Indio’s recovery."
Thankfully, things seem to be looking up at the moment. Deborah says Indio — who is in a rock band and also acts — is "doing great" and will "be back playing music and doing better soon."
We're wishing Indio, Robert, and their loved ones all the best during this tough time. Clearly, Robert has been able to beat his demons, so we're hopeful that Indio can be back on a healthy path soon as well.
