The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman to Appear on The Writer’s Room
Have you ever wondered how Robert Kirkman (and others, but mostly RK) was able to adapt his wildly successful Walking Dead comics into AMC’s mega hit drama The Walking Dead? If your answer to that question is yes, then we’ve got some great news for you: Robert will be on SundanceTV’s The Writer’s Room to discuss how he made the transition from one medium to the other.
RK will be joined by Smallville executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar, Michael Schneider,Los Angeles Bureau Chief of TV Guide Magazine, and geek culture expert Blair Butler to discuss how various comic book favorites have successfully crossed over from comic book to screen. Robert will even address how Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) was created just for the show, since we know he was never part of the original source material and never will be. This epic half-hour will be hosted by Community’s Jim Rash.
Generally, Robert will also talk about which storylines make the cut from graphic novel to TV. TWD showrunner Scott Gimple was recently asked by a fan how the Powers that Be determine which storylines will get carried over from one medium to the other. “There are a few things going on with that. There’s so much in our current timeline that doesn’t match up with the comic when they were at this stage of the story,” he reasoned. “Plus, there were characters that get on the show like Daryl that weren’t even in the comic. So right there there’s a basis for things to be different.” Still, Scott went on to note that he loves pulling plot points from the comics whenever he can.
Robert’s episode of The Writer’s Room premieres on April 25 at 9 p.m. ET. Will you be watching? Maybe he’ll even drop a hint about TWD Season 5! Tell us your plans below!
