Robert Kirkman on Best, Worst Things About Walking Dead Season 5 Return
Production on The Walking DeadSeason 5 is in full swing, and they should be pretty close to filming the Episode 8 mid-season finale. The cast and crew will be at Comic-Con this Friday to talk about the upcoming season, and Robert Kirkman will also be on separate panels to talk about the comic book. In the meantime, RK talked to AMC about the first few weeks on Season 5’s Georgia set. What has excited him the most?
"Well, the things that excited me the most I cannot talk about!” RK teased. “There are a couple of big set pieces that were built from scratch and it’s amazing to see [production designer] Grace Walker work his magic. I will say that the worst thing about going back to set is that our prison has been dismantled. I kind of wish I had spent a little more time in it. It sucks to see that gone, but moving on, we’ve got cool stuff going on in this season. The secrecy has been fun. There are some really great things coming.”
It does suck to lose the prison. Maybe they can rebuild it and turn it into a tourist attraction? No?
What set pieces will they be building from scratch, do you think? They already have the outside of Terminus as a set location, and we noticed a church in the background of an AMC video, but was that already there or built from scratch? Speaking of being built, there’s a wall going up in Senoia, GA, with the rumor being that it will be used in the second half of Season 5 as part of the Alexandria Safe-Zone storyline. We’ll see.
There have been plenty of filming spoilers leaked from the set, and a lot of speculation about what it all might mean, but it’s actually good to hear that RK and The Powers That Be still have their secrets. We’re always up for a good surprise. But never up for a bad surprise! (See the Season 3 finale. That qualifies as a bad surprise.)
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
