Good news for most of us, but bad news for many Twilight fans: Robert Pattinson has officially closed the book on Twilight. Should Stephenie Meyer ever pen another novel about the romance of Edward and Bella, we can count Rob out.
Why? Not so much because he’s over the whole vampire thing, but more because he’s simply aged out of the role. The 28-year-old now officially looks like a 28-year-old — and Edward is perpetually 18.
“I couldn’t do another Twilight movie,” Rob told Variety at the Cannes Vanity Fair party. “I’m too old.”
He also talked about the film’s popularity, which he said caught him completely off guard. “No one thought it was going to be a big deal,” he said. “We thought it was going to be like Thirteen.”
But a cult classic it was not, and quickly Twilight took over the box office every single time a new movie was released.
And one of the things that endeared us to Rob from the beginning was how facetious he was about taking on the role of Edward Cullen. As many people as there were who instantly got in line to mock the popular vampire franchise, none could beat out Rob’s disdain for the series.
Next up for Rob? He’s in talks with Harmony Korine to star in one of his future flicks. Fingers crossed it’s not Spring Breakers 2 — Rob’s been through enough.
