Robin Thicke’s Mom and Wife React to Miley Cyrus’s Raunchy VMAs Performance
We can all agree that poor Robin Thicke was the victim of last night’s performance in which he “danced” on stage with Miley Cyrus. He acted normally, but between Miley’s nude bikini and foam finger, our eyes were glued to the screen, but only because of the sheer shock factor. It was a ratherunpleasant scene for most.
The 36-year-old singer was basically accosted through his Beetlejuice-inspired suit by Miley as she ground and twerked her way through a very raunchy performance that blended from her hit “We Can’t Stop” to his “Blurred Lines.” She went a little too far when she went from enjoying her moves down the stage to enjoying Robin with a grab at his crotch, a kiss on his neck, and a lap dance/twerk that will certainly go down in VMA history. Somebody already created aGIF of the occasion.
Regardless of what the audience thought, though, we really wanted to hear Miley and Robin’s parents and even Robin’s wife, Paula Patton, tell us how they felt about the performance. According toTMZ, Paula did comment on the raunchy action, saying that she knew it wasn’t going to be G-rated, and that there were no surprises during the show that she didn’t already know to expect. It’s pretty impressive for a loving wife to allow that kind of behavior from a 20-year-old toward her husband. We assume Paula shrugs it off as just showbiz, but if we were married to Robin, we definitely wouldn’t have been as chill with it.
For a sharp contrast, Robin’s mother weighed in, and it appears that she saw nothing but surprises in the performance.Life & Style Magazine reports that Gloria Loring “didn’t get what [Miley’s] point was.” She said, “It was so over the top as to almost be a parody of itself." She added, "I don't understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do. I think she's misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial."
Just hours after Miley’s performance, her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, tweeted, “Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love ...less hate.” While some news sites reported this as a reaction to his daughter’s performance, Billy Raytweeted again, addressing his intent: “FYI ’Love Not Hate’ Late last night I was watching devastating news out of Syria. Chemical weapons used on innocent children is unacceptable!” This seems to suggest that his initial reaction was just convenient timing, but it leaves us to continue wondering what he thought about the show. Or has he just given up, resigned to watching Miley’s trainwreck performances on TV like the rest of us?
