Russell Brand Texted Katy Perry to Say He Wanted a Divorce

Worst. New Year's Eve. Ever.

Katy Perry told Vogue that on the last day of 2011, she received a text from her then-husband, comedian Russell Brand, saying (in so many words) that his New Year's resolution was to divorce her.

The two had been married for 14 months, having wed in October 2010.

"He's a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him," the pop star tells the magazine. "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me [on] December 31, 2011."

Another blow, she says, was when sat in on one of his comedy shows as a romantic surprise, only to find him making jokes at his expense.

She tells Vogue that she does hold herself accountable for being on tour a lot of the time but also asserts that she genuinely tried to schedule husband-wife time.

"I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. You saw that in the movie [Katy Perry: Part of Me]. That wasn't edited to leave footage out — there wasn't any footage of him."

The breaking point, she says, was finding out "the real truth," which she is reluctant disclose at the moment.

"I let go and I was like: This isn't because of me; this is beyond me."

Don't worry your pretty head about it, Katy. After all, baby, you're a firework.
