She's an Aspiring Event Planner. “I plan to start my own boutique event planning company that specializes in weddings,” Ashton told the Richmond Times-Dispatch at the time of her 2012 wedding. “Planning my own wedding was so positive.”
Once she "got her feet wet" in Seattle, she told morning show New Day Northwest in November 2013, she actually launched her event planning business, adding charity events to her roster!
She's Moved Around a Lot as an Adult. Ashton originally attended University of Georgia, then transferred to North Carolina State to be closer to Russell, who was playing for the NC State Wolfpack at the time. She graduated with a communications degree, thenfollowed Russell when he transferred to University of Wisconsin in Madison. Dating a professional athlete makes staying in one place difficult; the pair went back to North Carolina to get married, then three months later, moved to Seattle after Russell got drafted. With all that and Russell's brief time with the Colorado Rockies baseball team, she's lived a lot of places.
So with moving around so much, how does Ashton get to know a place? "Eating around different places," she told New Day Northwest. That's our kind of lady!
She Loves Salted Caramels. One of her favorite treats in Madison was salted caramels — made extra-delicious by Wisconsin's booming dairy industry. When they moved to Seattle, Ashton was bummed that she didn't have ready access to her favorite candy until she tried the salted caramels at Purple, a Seattle-area chain. "Seattle — we were destined to be here," she told New Day Northwest.
Ashton! Those ones are pretty good, but take it from the Wetpaint Seattle offices: You absolutely must try the salted caramels from Fran's and Jonboy.
She's a Total Dog Person. To be fair, so is Russell — the pair has three dogs together, including a pocket beagle named Penny and a dachshund named Cali.
Russell even used Penny in his proposal to Ashton! The couple told the story to the Richmond Times-Dispatch: he whisked her, blindfolded, up to the presidential suite at a hotel near Raleigh, where they were both attending college at the time. After he removed the blindfold, he had the dog walk in wearing a rhinestone collar with a tag reading, "Hey Mom, Dad has a question he wants to ask you." The rest is history.
Ashton often posts adorable photos of the pups on Twitter. You're welcome for the tip.
She Visits Seattle Children's Hospital Every Week. "It's just a reminder of all the blessings that you have and everything you need to be thankful for," Ashton told New Day Northwest of her and Russell's visits with sick kids.
