Russell Wilson Files for Divorce — 3 Months After Winning Super Bowl
This has been quite an up-and-down year for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Less than three months after leading his team to an NFL championship at the Super Bowl, he has announced that he is filing for divorce from his wife.
Russell, 25, and Ashton Meem met in high school but didn't start dating until college, according to TMZ. Russell was still in college when the pair tied the knot in January 2012, which was just a few months before he was drafted by the Seahawks.
"I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," Russell says in a statement. "Clearly, decisions like these don't come easy." On the day of the divorce announcement, the devoutly religious Russell retweeted a message reading, "God never promises the absence of storms. He just promises to walk with us through them."
Russell and Ashton, an event planner, share three dogs together but do not have any children. The two of them have participated in numerous charity events together over the years.
We wish all the best to Russell and Ashton during this tough time.
