Ryan Anderson Breaks Silence on Life After Gia Allemand Suicide
We were heartbroken when Bachelor / Bachelor Pad star Gia Allemand tragically took her life in August 2013. Considering we were just big fans rather than friends, we can’t even begin to imagine the grief those close to her must have felt. So it’s to be expected that, just one month after she was laid to rest, boyfriend Ryan Anderson is still dealing with a lot of emotional ups and downs.
Back to work as a forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, Ryan spoke for the first time since Gia’s passing at the team’s media day. “Every day is a challenge,” he told reporters, getting choked up as he reflected on the last several weeks. However, Ryan also said that getting back to work has eased the pain somewhat. “It helps to be here. My family’s with me. To be here with my teammates really helps a lot. But it’s a roller coaster. Yeah.”
Along with the support of his teammates and family, Ryan has found strength through his faith and has come to see the tragedy of Gia’s death as a reminder to reach out to others who are struggling. “I wasn’t planning on saying all this, but let’s be honest here. We live in a society now where you’ve got to live up to something, you’ve got to be a certain person and you’re not going to be accepted and every single person, every single person has something special about them. That’s what I want to be my goal here. To have everybody here know that they’re not alone. Whatever you’re going through in your life, you’re not alone.”
It sounds like Ryan plans to make strides toward that goal soon. “We’re in the process of starting something great for her with her family, including my family too. We have a huge plan to do something great, great in her name that’s going to help a lot of people.”
