Ryan Culberson Defends Himself After Real Housewives of OC Outburst

“It was the editing” is an oft-repeated explanation for bad behavior on reality TV, and Ryan Culberson is invoking it to explain his outburst in The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 8 finale. As he tells the Marine Corps Times, there was much more to his altercation with Judy Stirling, Lydia McLaughlin’s mother, than viewers saw.

Vicki Gunvalson’s son-in-law, Ryan, is a marine who was seen arguing heatedly with Lydia’s 64-year-old mother in a recent RHOC episode. “There was so much more … that led up to that incident which they fail to include to make me look like the crazy Marine,” Culberson said in the email interview with Marine Corps Times. “It definitely was a crazy night and I cannot get over how the producers edited it.”

While he admits he regrets some of the things he said, he claims “if the true story had of been painted it would be a lot more justified.”

Vicki also spoke with the Times and said, “Although I can’t defend or condone how he acted because I wasn’t there at the time, I do know Ryan is a very kind man but obviously was pushed to his limit with her.”

Though Lydia admits she didn’t witness the event, she wrote in her Bravo blog, “My brother and sister-in-law were there and they left right after because they couldn't believe what they saw.” It sounds like there are only four people — and perhaps some Bravo editors — who really know what happened.
