Ryan Gets Rejected! JP Gets Jealous! Recap of The Bachelorette Season 7, Episode 7

We may have to rename him Mr. Little Black Rain Cloud.

Ryan Park was our Mr. Sunshine from the blooming of the first impression rose on The Bachelorette Season 7 premiere, but it’s summer now and his melodramatic sweetness is feeling muggy and uncomfortable. We can’t say we’re too shocked that Ashley Hebert dumps him in Taiwan on Episode 7, but it’s not too nice that she kicks him out during their very first 1-on-1 date. Ryan leaves us with a classic “Make me the next Bachelor speech,” which is cheesy but still better than that babbling about water heaters. If he does become the next Bachelor, maybe just leave that stuff out.

Lucas is also gone but was he ever really there? Constantine and Ames are also around, but Ashley just likes looking at the Greek hottie and she likes listening to the fascinating Ivy League guy.

She seems most serious about JP and Ben… and this week, for the first time, it seems more like Ben first, JP second.

Of course that could just be creative editing and presumed frontrunner JP still has several standout moments, thanks to his jealous hissy fits. His feelings seem the strongest at this point, but does Ashley feel the same or is she just super flattered to be sought-after by this sexy guy?

Read on for a full recap of Taiwan time:

Date card: Constantine, “Let your love light shine.” There is no rose on this date.

Weirdly enough, JP seems even more jealous and upset than Ryan P., who STILL hasn’t gotten a 1-on-1 date yet. JP is getting the major “Sookie is mahhhhhn” edit, but are we just being led to believe he cares the most? Is he just a possessive guy in general?

Ashley admits her relationship with Constantine — a.k.a. Dino — is slower than with the other guys. They have zero chemistry. She just likes to look at him, as she openly admits a couple of times.

They release lanterns and Ashley seems to think Dino is taking it seriously, but to the camera he talks about their relationship like it’s an interview for a job he’s not even sure he wants.

Constantine has a loud family and a grandfather who likes to corner people. We all have at least one relative like that, right?

She admits, again, that he’s physically what she wants. So… if he’s not right for her, maybe his Red Dragon Twin, Ben F., is right for her?

Constantine is being honest, at least. If he falls in love this is right for him. But he’s not trying to lead her on. Her eyes seem to brighten, though. She’s in the DeAnna Pappas/Graham Bunn phase of the relationship where she’s more into him than vice versa.

Their closed-mouth kiss/peck is very awkward. The lanterns are having a more romantic night than Ash and Dino.

Date card: Ben, “Let’s spend a ‘gorges’ day together in Taiwan”

They explore the area on a moped. He has such a low-key quality to him, it’s hard to tell what he’s really excited about. He’s like the anti-Ryan.

But he’s cute on the moped, calling her “kiddo” and “precious cargo.” He’s a sweet-talker, but it never feels phony.

“I am falling in love with Ashley,” Ben says, “but I’m not ready to tell her that.” Squee!

They talk about hometown dates. His mother and sister’s opinions matter a lot to him. He thinks after they see him and Ashley they will be fine. He wants to see their relationship on the next level.

Ben doesn’t throw around “the L-bomb” a lot. He’s cautious about it. He’s only said it a couple of times. They kiss and get some nice music in the background. All of her kisses so far tonight have been closed-mouth pecks.

“I think that I might be falling in love with Ben.” Squee! “I feel like he’s my boyfriend.” Don’t tell JP!

Date card: Ames Brown, JP Rosenbaum, and Lucas Daniels

It’s time to play “Where’s Ben”? Ben didn’t come home from his date. JP is swearing a lot about it, when he’s not stewing in silence.

When Ben came back, the other guys joked and called him “Mr. 24 Hours” and “Mr. All Nighter” but JP looked like he was in pain and walked out. Awww! But, seriously, he needs to simmah down and remember the whole point of the show is having the girl date multiple guys. This is like Chantal O’Brien — and Ashley herself — getting jealous over Brad Womack on The Bachelor Season 15.

On the group date, the trio take wedding photos in Taipei’s photography district. Lucas looks silly in a traditional shirt he calls a dress. Ames looks even sillier in a blue tux with a pink ruffled shirt. But JP looks nice in a normal tux.

Lucas was upset because JP had been “cranky” and “moody” about Ben, but now that he gets to wear a tux, his mood has changed. Is JP a diva? Ashley looks her best in that dress. It’s very flattering to her figure and her hair looks perfect.

Somehow JP manages to get jealous watching Ashley peck her men. He says “group dates suck” (a little too often) and his high is coming down from his 1-on-1 in Hong Kong. He remains moody.

So now we’re being given an alternative to the “Of course JP is going to win” edit we’ve seen up to this point. They don’t want to make it too obvious who wins. (Some of us still think it’s obvious that Chantal should’ve won The Bachelor — her chemistry with Brad was electric!)

After the wedding photos part of the date, the group has a little cocktail gathering. It’s awkward and not fun. It’s Lucas’ least favorite group date. He hated wearing a dress. It’s insulting to a manly man like him. He wants her to meet his family. He’s confident that it will happen. He’s not worried about what it will be like getting married a second time. He wants kids. He and Ashley kiss.

Ames shows off photos from his past. Ashley loves how unique Ames is, but he definitely seems in the “good friend” zone. Ames always says the right things, but he’s just a gentleman in general.

JP complains to Ashley about how hard this week has been. He thought their relationship reached another level in Hong Kong. He doesn’t want to deal with her dating other guys, even though he knows that’s the focus of the show. Ashley says “really?” like she can’t believe he would care that much. Does she not believe it? Is she just flattered? She’s squinting at him, like she’s not sure about him. She wonders if he’s getting in fights about it.

She thought he was cool as a cucumber, but he says “when you feel this way about someone, that changes everything.” She looks stone-faced and she runs off to get the rose. She gives it to JP… because he pulled an Ashley! Remember just a couple of weeks ago when she gave Blake Julian the rose for getting insecure and pulling his own Ashley? That’s the way to get a rose from her. It’s a pity rose!

Ashley tells JP to be patient because she thinks good things could come from this. She can’t wait to meet his family. They kiss. So he’s the first one to get a rose this week. He always does seem to get special treatment...

Date card: “Let’s get a taste of Taipei”

Ryan threatens to sleep with the date card, he’s so excited. That’s very Jake of you, Ryan. Resist!

Ashley likes Ryan because he’s a positive person, despite the fact that the he annoys the other guys. But she wants to see if they have a connection.

They go walking through Taipei and see temples and go to a matchmaking god. If his wish comes true they have a happy future ahead. Things didn’t go his way.

She already seems to be checked out. He makes a whole speech about Tai-Chi and energy and it just seems like too much. He is over the top and she doesn’t seem to feel the connection. He seems to be forcing it, too.

Ryan talks about his love for the environment and she tells a story about how she threw away a plastic bottle and a guy stormed out on her. (Wow, that happens a lot with her.)

Is he seriously telling a story about water heaters? My God. She’s going to jump in the pond behind her.

Poor Mr. Sunshine. “You don't want to meet my family?” He looks like a lost puppy, but how much of it is forced? This is their first actual date. He doesn’t cry. Not here. She squints at him. It’s awkward.

But uh-oh. She’s already having second thoughts? It’s actually a smart decision, so of course she’s not sure about it. Ryan is a great guy, but not for her. We knew that even before the water heater speech.

He seems to lose it when talking to the cameras, swearing and making a fuss. It seems very emotional. He’s going to pull a Mesnick on a balcony in a minute.

Ashley doesn’t even want a cocktail party. Are the cocktail parties passé? They get blown off a lot.

JP already has a rose at this point. The other men to receive roses are:

1. Constantine
2. Ben
3. Ames

Eliminated: Lucas. You wore a dress for nothing, man! He doesn’t seem too broken up about it.

For some reason, Ashley is crying. She didn’t know there would be this much pressure? Is she upset about letting Lucas go? Why? They had nothing together. What did we miss in the Lucas edit that made him so special?

Hometown dates are next! Ames seems like he comes from money — do you think his family’s pad will be bigger than Chantal O’Brien’s mansion?

But that wasn't the end of the drama! In a highly anticipated interview, Emily Maynard sat down with Chris Harrison to discuss her split from Brad Womack. Read the full recap here!
