Ryan Guzman Confirms He’s Not Returning to Pretty Little Liars For Season 5

It sounds like hottie martial arts instructor Jake will be avoiding former flame Aria Montgomery this season on Pretty Little Liars. Ryan Guzman, the actor behind the role, just confirmed on Twitter that he won’t be appearing on Pretty Little Liars fifth season. Sad news for us, probably good news for Ryan’s character. Who knows how many knives “A” has hidden around Jake’s dojo.

“Im getting asked a lot if im on season 5 of @ABCFpll .Unfortunately not, I've been working on other projects.Maybe season 6…” Ryan tweeted last month. Jake disappeared for the end of Season 4, after he and Aria broke up and before the Ezra bomb had dropped. Actually, Jake was really the first to suspect of Ezra of hiding something. Maybe the Liars should keep him around after all? They could use him like a kind of human lie detector, pointing him at different Rosewood residents to see if they’re secretly stalking them. We would watch that show.

As much as we love Ryan, we think it might be a good thing he’s not in Season 5, and not just for his character’s sake. Pretty Little Liars has a huge supporting cast of characters, many of whom have been on the show since the beginning and most of whom play a more integral part in the “A” game (unless Jake’s really hiding something, in which case scrap Project Human Lie Detector). Jake felt like a bit of a distraction from the characters we’ve been itching to check in with — like Lucas and Jenna.

Besides, Aria has enough to deal with right now without throwing her relationship with Jake into the mix.

Are you sad to hear Ryan won’t be in Season 5? Sound off in the comments below!
