Ryan Lochte’s TV Career Sinks — E! Cancels His Show After One Season
Let’s hope Ryan Lochte still remembers how to swim. TV Line reports television channel E! has passed on bringing back the Olympic swimmer’s reality TV series What Would Ryan Lochte Do? after its first season.
E! declined to comment on the news but “an insider at the network” reportedly told TV Line “they hope to work with Lochte again in the future.” WWRLD? drew an estimated 800,000 viewers for its April 21, 2013, debut but the audience dropped with each subsequent episode. By the time the May 27, 2013, finale arrived barely 300,000 tuned in.
Let’s take a quick lap down memory lane and recall the brief chlorine-scented joy WWRLD? brought into our lives. Highlights from the show’s one and only season included Ryan running a roller rink with his family, dealing with the end a long-distance relationship, and, on a lighter note, meeting with a sculpture artist to get his abs molded. All, by the by, while he said “jeah” enough times to inspire plenty of at-home drinking games.
So what should Ryan Lochte do now that is reality TV career has been put on hold? The possibilities are endless. He could add to his collection of more than 100 pairs of startling bright shoes. He could continue perfecting his use his custom catchphrase. He could shine his Olympic medals and, fingers crossed, stay far, far away from cameras — at least until E! unveils that Michael Phelps/Ryan Lochte show we just know is in the works.
