Ryan Seacrest May Ditch ‘Idol’ Reboot Over Katy Perry’s Payday – Report
The American Idol reboot hasn't even started production yet, and there's already major drama behind the scenes.
And most worrying of all, the drama is reportedly between the show's two biggest stars.
Ryan Seacrest, meanwhile, has not yet signed on, but it was widely believed that he would be returning to host the new version of the show, splitting time between it and his new gig as Kelly Ripa's co-host on Live!. Now, it looks as if that may no longer be the case.
According to Page Six, the 42-year-old tv host is enraged about the insane amount of money the singer is making on the show, especially since she'll be joining the series as a newcomer and he's been there since the beginning.
Katy, 32, is reportedly earning a whopping $25 million for doing the series, something she boasted about on radio station 103.5 KTU last week.
"I’m really proud that, as a woman, I got paid. And you know why? I got paid, like, more than like pretty much any guy that’s been on that show," the "Swish Swish" singer said in her interview.
According to Page Six's sources, Ryan was offered $10 million — less than half of Katy's salary — to return as host, and now he's not so sure he wants the gig.
"[Ryan] was suddenly asking himself why he would come back for a 16th season at a salary [much smaller than that] of the newcomer judge," said Richard Rushfield, the author of American Idol: The Untold Story.
However, a source close to ABC claims that negotiations with the host are ongoing, and they're hopeful that a deal will be worked out. They also claim that Katy's reported salary has been inflated.
Do you think Ryan will host the Idol reboot?
