Ryan Seacrest Says Mariah Carey “Firmly Planted” On American Idol 2013
Rumors of a secret plot to replace American Idol judge Mariah Carey with Jennifer Lopez mid-season are “ridiculous” according to host Ryan Seacrest.
A media frenzy erupted earlier this week when a source told The Hollywood Reporter that Season 12 producers had a plan to oust Mariah Carey midway through the season due to nose-diving American Idol ratings.
A rep for FOX denied any such plan ever existed, according to THR, and producer Nigel Lythgoe said he never heard about any plot behind the scenes to pull a switch on the judging panel this season.
American Idol host Ryan Seacrest also believes the rumor about the replacement plan is just crazy. “I had not heard about that before that report. I saw Mariah that day and she was firmly planted in that seat, and I see her tonight and I think she was firmly planted in that seat, I don’t think she is going anywhere,” Ryan told Extra.
Veteran American Idol judge Randy Jackson also thinks the rumor is total hogwash. “It’s so weird, it sounds so ridiculous… you hear rumors about these shows all the time,” Randy said. “This one was so ridiculous of an idea… anyway, I think that would have hurt a lot of things.”
