One of our favorite parts of American Idol? Our adorable (and sometimes slightly awkward) host, Ryan Seacrest. If he’s not being unintentionally funny, he’s doing his best to make the contestants feel comfortable on stage… especially during auditions week. In some ways, he’s kind of the male Ellen DeGeneres.
So when we heard the rumors that he could be leaving American Idol after Season 13, we were understandably panicked. After all, through the revolving door of judges, Ryan has been the one who has stuck with the show through it all, for better and for worse. So what’s going on? Is Ryan leaving us after all these years?
Here’s the truth: According to Variety, his contract is coming to an end this month. No big deal — it’s standard for TV hosting contracts to expire eventually, and we haven’t heard Ryan talk about any plans besides doing Idol.
However, it might not be totally up to him. There have been rumors that the bigwigs behind the show might want to cut their budget a little and hire someone for Season 14 who comes with a smaller price tag than Ryan does.
Ryan himself hasn’t shared his course of action yet, but we expect we’ll find out soon as Season 13 comes to a close. Need more details? Check out the video above.
Do you want Ryan to renew his contract, or is it time to bring in some new blood?
