Watch Sam Woolf Sing “Time After Time” in American Idol 2014 Top 8 — April 9, 2014

Feel like you’re having a bit of déjà vu to last week’s American Idol? Fear not, because we promise you’re not going crazy! Indeed, the Top 8 of Season 13 are taking the Idol stage for the second week in a row after the judges used their one and only save on Sam Woolf.

Despite the oldest contestants in the competition being just 23 years old (man, we feel ancient!), the eight remaining hopefuls will be taking on songs from the 1980s. That’s right, these talented hopefuls have been tasked with singing numbers that were popular before they were even born!

When it comes time for Sam to prove he truly did deserve that save, he decides to take on the classic Cyndi Lauper hit “Time After Time.” Mentor David Cook praises his talent and skill, but again emphasizes the need to connect with the audience. Will Sam step it up and give the kind of performance the judges have been waiting for?

“I love the fact that you did that with the acoustic guitar,” says Keith. “Now it’s just coming down to performance. It’s still about just loosening up because your vocal ability is all there.”

“I thought you did a great job,” adds J.Lo. “I was watching you intently. Listening to your voice is such a treat. And it really gets showcased when you just play the guitar. That is your strength. I felt you really trying to feel it and sing the words. It really came through.”

Do you think Sam deserves to make it through to next week? Watch the video below and sound off in the comments!
