Samantha Harris Updates After “Grueling Double Mastectomy” Surgery (VIDEO)

As the Dancing With the Stars Season 18 finalists prepare to fight for the Mirror Ball trophy, former co-host Samantha Harris just updated on her own battle with breast cancer.

Samantha, 40, told People she found a lump in her right breast last fall, and was diagnosed with cancer. She ultimately decided to have a double mastectomy. On May 20, Samantha tweeted, "Made it thru grueling double mastectomy #surgery. Thanks to all of my amazing surgical team. Like my ‘art’ b4 heading in?!"

The "art" she means are the surgical lines on her chest, which you can see in her photo below.

Samantha and her husband Michael Hess have two daughters, Josselyn, born in 2007, and Hillary, born in 2011. Samantha told People they weren’t sure how to share the cancer news with their children so they decided to speak with the girls separately, and made a video of their mom’s health journey. "The day we found out while it was still fresh in our minds, we made a video," Samantha said. "I don't know if we'll end up showing it to them, but at least we have the option."

Samantha was DWTS's second co-host, after Lisa Canning, and stayed with the show from Seasons 2-9. She was followed by Brooke Burke-Charvet, who opened up on her own battle with thyroid cancer in 2012. Brooke co-hosted from Seasons 10-17, replaced in Season 18 by current co-host Erin Andrews.

It’s good to hear Samantha made it through her difficult surgery. We wish her strength and a speedy recovery!
