What’s Samuel Larsen Up to Now That He’s Not on Glee Anymore?
We’ve been huge fans of Samuel Larsen (Joe) ever since he first appeared as a long-haired, heavily-tatted — and did we mention gorgeous? — rocker with a booming voice on Season 1 of The Glee Project. Sadly, it appears his days on Glee are behind us. So what is he up to now? You might actually be surprised.
Samuel certainly made his mark during the course of his time on Glee. He debuted in Season 3 as Joe, and he had a major storyline in his will they-won’t they relationship with Quinn (Dianna Agron) as he nursed her back to health after her devastating car crash. The two also teamed up for a stellar duet on “Saving All My Love for You.”
Joe’s presence diminished as Season 4 progressed, and other than the occasional quip about his unwieldy, tarantula-esque locks, he basically faded into the background. There’s been no official word about Samuel’s departure, but since he hasn’t appeared in Season 5’s first three episodes and has yet to show up on the set, we’re guessing he won’t be back. Sigh.
However, Samuel is staying busy, having recently filmed a role in an upcoming indie movie called Claire’s Cambodia, which also stars Bridesmaids’ Wendi McLendon-Covey and Raising Hope’s Shannon Woodward. Maybe this is why he recently chopped off all his hair? The film is being produced by the screenwriter of The Hunger Games and is currently hitting the film festival circuit. Fingers crossed for it!
Also, Samuel is staying true to his first love — music — as he released his mixtape, 3 Blind Costumes, on YouTube in September to strong reviews. It features a number of original tunes, along with a cover of Lenny Kravitz’s “Be.”
And Samuel’s love life has made headlines recently as well. For quite a while, he was dating Kristen Stewart’s real-life bestie, Scout Taylor-Compton. The two appear to have split, and he was linked to 41-year-old Baywatch babe Carmen Electra in May 2013. He certainly has eclectic taste in significant others, no?
As for Sam’s fellow Glee Project alums, both Season 1 runner-up Alex Newell (Unique) and Season 2 winner Blake Jenner (Ryder) are still going strong on Glee, while Season 1 runner-up Lindsay Pearce (Harmony) appeared earlier this month on Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva. And Sam stays close with Damian McGinty (Rory), as he adorably wished Damian a happy birthday on Twitter last month.
So as much as we’d like to see Joe back on Glee every week, it’s great that he’s involved with projects that aren’t letting his numerous talents go to waste. Best of luck, Samuel!
