After 22 years behind that famous desk, tonight, Jay Leno’s final Tonight Show episode airs before Jimmy Fallon takes over starting Monday, February 17. And last night, Jay’s friend and frequent guest, Sandra Bullock, appeared on his second-to-last episode ever — but not without paying a tribute to the veteran host that made Sandy get a little emotional.
Jay was first to compliment Sandra as they said their goodbyes. “When I saw you in Wrestling Ernest Hemingway, I looked at you the way I looked at my wife for the first time,” Jay said. “You just popped, and I went, ‘Oh my god. This person’s gotta be a big star.’ And it all came true.”
And then, it was Sandra’s turn. “You've always been so kind,” she began. “That's saying a lot in this business because we like to be mean. There's not been one time that you haven't treated me like I had something to offer. Even when the film was horrible and you knew it, you never let me see it in your eyes.”
“You were always so welcoming and every single person on your crew was that way consistently and I just felt special even when I felt very insecure,” Sandra added. “And everyone, I think, in this room and in this country, has felt that every day that you've been in their homes. I'm so grateful that I got to be a part of this.”
Wait, we never realized we might be sad about the Era of Jay Leno ending until we saw it happen to Sandra Bullock. Someone please pass the tissues.
