It might have been hard for us to accept that Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang) was leaving Grey’s Anatomy forever, but for Sandra? It was twice as difficult to make the decision to leave the set she called home for the past ten years and take that scary step into the unknown.
“The decision-making was extremely profound,” Sandra tells News Corp Australia. “I see a therapist. It’s like, you have a doctor. It’s part of my own health and well being. I also talked to my dear friends.”
And she also talked to her castmates, who we already know learned that Sandra was leaving the show at the table read for the 200th episode (Season 10, Episode 4: “Puttin’ On The Ritz”).
“Then we just kind of went to work like business as usual, but every so often, it would be like, ‘Don’t look at me’ [or I’ll start crying],” Sandra shares. “Ten years playing one character, you really get to explore — and this is one of the reasons I decided to leave. Cristina has gone through so many things. I feel like I have explored the character fully.”
Of course, Grey’s Anatomy will never be the same without our Cristina, but we know Sandra will find so much success no matter what projects she’s working on. We can’t wait to find out what’s next for her!
Was it the right time for Sandra to move on from Grey’s, or do you miss her already?
