Vampire Diaries Star Sara Canning on Why Aunt Jenna Hasn’t Been Back Since Her Death

It’s been what seems like forever since we last saw Sara Canning (Jenna Sommers) alive in the Season 2 finale — you know, when Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) broke her neck and staked her in a sacrifice to make hybrids. But we must say: Sara’s latest magazine cover is nothing short of breathtaking.

The former Vampire Diaries actress appears on the cover of the winter issue of Real Style magazine. In the adorable photo, Sara is donning a blush-colored gown with an embroidered touch that really compliments her chic earrings. Sara’s coverline teases the story of the Canadian actress’s rise to fame — though the CW hit is credited as her big break.

When asked why she hasn’t returned to The Vampire Diaries since characters on the series never really stay dead, Sara admits that she’s still pulled to the role.

“It is a very strange feeling to be finished with a character, because I never feel like I am finished with them. I think they stay with me,” Sara told the mag. “Years later I might react to something and think ‘Jenna would have thought this.’ You sort of get into whatever their mindset is. I like my characters to be very opinionated and have strong worldviews and then you walk around going ‘Wait, what is mine now?’”

We miss Aunt Jenna so much, but luckily we know that she’s going to be returning in the 100th episode when it airs on January 23, 2014.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
