Sara Ramirez Talks Sandra Oh Leaving Grey’s Anatomy: “It Feels Like An Era Has Ended”
We’ve tried to ignore the fact that it’s happening, but eventually we’ll have to face up to it: This is Sandra Oh’s (Cristina Yang) final season on Grey’s Anatomy. As unimaginable as life at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital is without Cristina running around stealing surgeries from her colleagues is, one day, it will be a reality.
And we’re not the only ones who are dreading it. Sara Ramirez (Callie Torres) is looking forward to that day about as much as anyone looks forward to a trip to the dentist, but she’s doing her best to make the most out of the time she has left with Sandra.
“She’s one of the reasons I started watching the show,” Sara revealed to TVLine. “It feels like an era has ended or something. There is some sadness around it, but I’m really happy for her. This is about what makes her happy, and this is about a decision that is right for her. So that’s really my focus moving forward.”
Sara is a far bigger person than we are, because our focus moving forward into life without Cristina Yang is on the fact that we will never again get to see her precious bestie moments with her person, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) — starting now, if their feud never comes to an end before her departure.
How else is Sara dealing with it? Her plan is to “soak in what it is to work with Sandra Oh, and hang out with her. Or sometimes we work out together outside of work.”
We occasionally work out with Sandra and Sara, too. Of course, our situation is more like watching Grey’s on Netflix while we (very slowly) “run” on the treadmill.
