April Kepner's romantic turmoil seems to finally be abating, as she chose Matthew (Justin Bruening) over Jackson (Jesse Williams) during last night's Season 10 premiere of Grey's Anatomy. But her portrayer, Sarah Drew, has enjoyed a solid relationship for much longer.
The 32-year-old actress has been married to college lecturer Peter Lanfer for over 11 years, and they have a 20-month-old son, Micah.
Sarah raved about her loving family in a new interview with YourTango.
"My husband is an incredible father. He's an equal partner in every way," she reveals. "It makes me fall in love with my husband more to watch him with our son. We're forced to stay at home because we have him, so we have a date every night."
Sarah, stop! Now we're falling a little in love with him too. But was it love at first sight for these two? According to Sarah, yes and no.
"For him it was … I had been burned twice by guys, so I was wounded and not interested in guys at all. He pursued me with handwritten letters for, like, eight months. It was incredibly romantic and old fashioned. I fell in love with him through the letters.”
What's her advice for such a successful marriage? Be your partner's cheerleader, keep communicating 100 percent, and cut the sarcasm. Oh, and write love letters, like she and Peter continue to do every so often.
Luckily April's love life is not so perfect — because relationships this happy do not make for compelling TV.
