Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland “Not Okay” With Carly Rae Jepsen as Cinderella on Broadway

We know that Modern Family star Sarah Hyland is close pals with Taylor Swift, so we just assumed that she was as sweet and uncontroversial as her chart-topping buddy. Color us surprised when the actress showed a more outspoken and feistier side to herself on Twitter this week, when she publicly opposed Carly Rae Jepsen’s forthcoming debut as Cinderella on Broadway.

Sarah clearly had something to get off her chest, and she wasn’t mincing any words, tweeting: “Today's a meltdown day. Carly Rae jepsen is going to be cinderella??? On broadway???? NOT OK WITH THIS. Tell me it's gonna be ok @LauraOsnes.”

For reference: Laura Osnes is the current Broadway star portraying Cinderella. Carly will fill in for her for 12 weeks, starting on February 4.

"Hoping she will be amazing," Sarah continued. "I'm hesitant though..."

The 23-year-old did try to make nice soon afterwards, however, adding: “To[sp] avoid anyone assuming things? My previous tweets do not mean that I'm not a Carly Rae Jepsen fan. The end.”

Clearly, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella holds a special importance to the starlet, and we can’t blame her for being particular. One person whose casting we imagine she would approve of is Anna Kendrick, whom Sarah said “killed it” while performing at the Kennedy Center Honors. Hey, Anna has lots of experience playing Cinderella already: She’s currently starring as the rags-to-riches princess in the movie adaptation of Into the Woods.

Someone get the show’s director on the line!

Do you think Sarah’s reaction was too harsh? Tell us your thoughts below.
