Even Sarah McLachlan Changes Channel When That ASPCA Ad Comes On
It’s late at night. Maybe you’re a little drunk, on the way to being hungover. For some reason you can’t sleep so you turn on the boob tube and what’s on? That doggone Sarah McLachlan commercial that you hear before you see. “In the arms of an angel…” You know the one.
Images of hurt and mistreated animals flash across the screen asking you to support them by supporting ASPCA and honestly, it’s just too much to take. You change the channel and, if Fido happens to be around, give him a treat or two to soothe your conscience.
Well, you’re not alone in picking up the remote when that particular ad comes on. Even the singer behind that heart-wrenching anthem can’t take it. Sarah McLachlan admitted as much during a May 6 Q&A on reddit.
When a commenter mentioned that those “commercials bum me out so I change the channel,” Sarah said she does as well. “I change the channel too,” she replied. “It’s the kitten with the droopy eye, or the three-legged dog, bless them, it kills me.”
We can’t either, Sarah. We just can’t.
Watch the ad below (we dare you) and then maybe listen to “Happy” one to a zillion times to counteract the sad.
