Australia has been very kind to Dancing With the Stars U.S., giving us beloved pros like Kym Johnson, Peta Murgatroyd, and dance machine Sasha Farber.
Sasha was recently down in Sydney — at least in part for fellow pro Tristan MacManus’s wedding — and while there he talked to The Morning Show about his journey from the Aussie version of DWTS to the L.A.-based show.
"It's definitely a dream come true,” Sasha said. “As soon as I did the Australian one it was my goal to be a pro in the American one, and finally it happened." He explained how we have the DWTS dance troupe where they sometimes "test" the dancers first, and he did three seasons of that before he and girlfriend Emma Slater were tapped to be competing pros for the fall 2013 Season 17.
Emma got the finals with Bill Engvall — “She whipped me!” Sasha said — and Sasha got to Week 7 with Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi.
"She was great,” Sasha said of his Jersey Shore partner. “I was a bit nervous when I was first — in the introductory of it. I was kind of explaining a dance step to her and kind of mid-sentence she did this huge burp. And I was like, 'Right. We're going to get along just fine.'"
Yeah, nothing breaks the ice like a good belch — unless it’s swapping saliva, which they also did. The Morning Show aired a clip where Snooki accidentally spit into Sasha's mouth.
They obviously had some fun, but Sasha said Snooki was a hard worker and really matured and progressed in her journey. "I think that ‘Snooki’ was the old Snooki and Nicole is the new woman," he explained.
Sasha hopes to return for the spring DWTS Season 18, which premieres on Monday, March 17. The pros find out their fate in mid-February. Ideally, we’d like to see both Sash and Emma back with new partners. They met on Burn the Floor and it just worked out that they ended up together on DWTS. "To work with someone — I don't even call it work 'cause we have so much fun — to work with someone and be with someone that you love at the same time is just perfect," Sasha said.
That does sound like a perfect mix. No wonder he has such a great “Happy” dance!
