G.B.F. tells the story of the three most popular girls at North Gateway High, and their rivalry for the top spot. When classmate Tanner (Michael J. Willett) comes out as gay, they fight to secure the apparent social cachet that comes with having a gay best friend (hence the title, G.B.F.). Sasha stars as Fawcett in the film, one of the three mean girls vying for Tanner’s best friendship, and we are getting some serious Alison DiLaurentis flashbacks from her ‘tude shown in the trailer.
In the exclusive clip on Just Jared Jr., we see Tanner making his gay best friend debut alongside Fawcett and the other two mean girls —Caprice (Xosha Roquemore), and ‘Shley (Andrea Bowen) — while Tanner’s friends (played by Awkward’s Molly Tarlov, Paul Iacono, and Derek Mio) look on in horror.
Despite the seemingly cookie cutter formula, from the looks of the trailer and the clip, this film has some serious promise to continue the tradition of smart, surprising teen films that carry a deep message wrapped in clever caricature and light-hearted laughs. (Think Mean Girls or Easy A.) Basically, we think January is going to be a big month for us, too.
