Sasheer Zamata Plays Rihanna in SNL Debut — Give Her More Material? (VIDEOS)

Drake hosted Saturday Night Live last night, and it marked Sasheer Zamata's arrival as the first black female cast member since Maya Rudolph left in 2007.

Sasheer didn't have a huge role during the January 18 show, but she was featured in several sketches. She first appeared during Drake's monologue, when there was a flashback to his bar mitzvah. She got to smile and say "Mazel tov," so ... that's a start.

Sasheer also played Rihanna — a sexy Rihanna twerking and smoking on Blossom — in a BET sketch looking at music stars's TV roles before they were famous. In the same TV throwback skit, she was 2 Chainz's (Jay Pharoah) little sister during a That's So Raven talent show.

She also danced and sang in an odd music video called "Resolution Revolution."

It wasn’t a huge debut, but the night was supposed to be more about Drake anyway.

Entertainment Weekly, for one, approved of how Sasheer was introduced, noting, “she was simply and easily integrated into the show, appearing in no fewer than five sketches throughout the episode.” She was given more screen time than other featured performers, but never tasked to carry a sketch herself, “which may have been too much for her very first show.”

EW approved of the “subtler” approach to her introduction; “this seems like the best way to gradually end the conversation about Sasheer Zamata, Black Lady Comedian, and move toward a world where she’s just another part of the group.”

Sasheer, a former member of the Upright Citizens Brigade, was reportedly cast after a major SNL talent search to add much-needed diversity to the show. SNL also recently added two African-American women to the writers' room.

Now that Sasheer has had her debut, do you think SNL should give her sketches to carry herself, so we can see more of what she can do?
