Scandal Season 3: ABC Renews Hit Shonda Rhimes Drama (UPDATE)

It’s handled, Gladiators — Scandal is returning for Season 3!

ABC renewed Shonda Rhimes’s hit drama — along with her first TV baby Grey’s Anatomy for Season 10 — for a full season, which the show saw success with this year after a seven-episode Season 1.

UPDATE: There's a twist to the renewal: On May 14, ABC entertainment president Paul Lee revealed that Scandal will run in two batches of uninterrupted original episodes, separated by one long break. It's unclear if this will be for 12 episodes each like fellow dramas Once Upon a Time and Revenge, but fingers crossed for 24 in Season 3!

Given the rapidly-growing fan base, especially on social media platforms, Scandal was a shoo-in for renewal. The ratings have grown tremendously throughout the season, and fans love how much cast members (even leading lady Kerry Washington) interact so heavily on Twitter.

Plus, given the crazy cliffhanger finale of Season 2, if the show wasn’t renewed, there would be a band of Gladiators banging down ABC’s door.

Are you excited that Scandal is returning? Sound off below!
