Scandal Season 3 premieres in a few short weeks, and fans are anxious to find out what happens next. Thankfully, Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with star Bellamy Young (Mellie Grant) at Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Emmy party on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Fig + Olive in West Hollywood, California, where she told reporters all about what to expect from her hit show’s third season — including what’s next for Mellie!

“You’re going to freak out,” she said of Season 3. “But I worry because I was so proud of us in Season 2. I thought the way they burnt through the story and just the quality was awesome. I thought how are they ever going to do that again? I’m on Episode 6 already of Season 3 and it’s incredible. I’m really, really so proud.”

Calling out the Scandal writers and guest cast in particular, Bellamy noted that she’s “so lucky” to work with these people. Still, that’s about all the 43-year-old actress could tell us about this season’s new players. “I’m going to tell you people that I know have already been out or Shonda will lynch me,” she dished. “Paul Edelstein is with us; Lisa Kudrow is with us.”

As for Mellie’s arc this season, Bellamy who said she is “thrilled” with the First Lady’s storyline thus far was luckily able to be a bit less cryptic.

“We start right after Season 2 ended … and Olivia’s just been outed as his [President Grant’s] mistress so she is no longer the fixer — she is the client. Mellie is the fixer in her own mind,” she spilled. “We’re looking at a reelection campaign, so I gotta handle it because we need four more years and Mellie has a very particular idea about who the scapegoat should be, what a strategy should be, how to push it all under the rug so we can get past and get reelected.”

We’ve come to love Mellie’s devious plans almost as much as we love Olivia’s ability to fix everything, but in typical Scandal fashion, it sounds like things won’t be quite so easy for Fitz’s wife this time around.

“Of course, it will no doubt blow up in her face,” Bellamy concluded.

Scandal Season 3 premieres on October 3 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. Will you be watching? Sound off below!
