With the craziness of Scandal, it’s hard to keep up with how Olivia Pope knows everyone, who the Gladiators have worked with, and the identities of their enemies. However, we may be able to map out the tangled web a bit more easily after Season 3, Episode 2: “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” airs.

On the all-new episode airing tonight, October 10, flashbacks will be featured heavily to help viewers learn more about Olivia’s estranged father and how their relationship unraveled. Given how insane and controlling he was in the premiere, plus the intel Cyrus received about how she didn't live in his house after her mother died, it's likely going to be daddy issues galore. Plus, in present day, there's a mess for Pope & Associates to clean up — namely the fact that Fitz outed Olivia as his mistress (which she doesn't know yet), but the rest of the country thinks that he was sleeping with another girl named Jeannine. Naturally, Mellie and Cyrus are to blame for that one, but the Gladiators betrayed Olivia with this plan, too. It's going to be quite a mess.

Read on for the short (and far from sweet) official synopsis:

“Olivia’s past comes back to haunt her on Scandal: Through flashbacks we learn more about Olivia’s estranged relationship with her father. Meanwhile, both the White House and  Pope & Associates are still in the middle of cleaning up the very big and very public mess they created.”

Looks like Olivia & Co. won’t be catching a break anytime soon, though hopefully these clues about her past will help things in the present make more sense, or at the very least give us insight into what’s to come with her mysterious father, Rowan. At the end of the premiere, he shared some top-secret information with Cyrus about Fitz and Jake. Is he going to take them down, too?

On a lighter note, if there’s a dinner party involved, we’re in. Gourmet popcorn and wine, anyone?
