Scandal hit the ground running with a smash hit of a Season 3 premiere — and record ratings, and it followed up with a stellar Episode 2. Given how mind-blowingly awesome this season is shaping up to be, we’re on the edge of our seats trying to figure out what will happen next.

Scandal Season 3, Episode 3 is titled, “Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington,” and will air on Thursday, October 17, at 10 p.m. on ABC. The network’s official episode summary is short and sweet.

A Midwestern mom hires Pope & Associates under mysterious conditions that lead to a very dangerous situation. Meanwhile, Fitz and Mellie admit their true feelings for each other.

First of all, we’re particularly intrigued by the episode’s reference to the 1939 Frank Capra political movie, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, which tells the story of a well-meaning small town senator who finds that the corruption and drama of Washington D.C. just might get the best of him. We wonder how that factors in to be an episode all about a suicide bomber.
