Sad news, Scandal fans. It looks like our boy Harrison Wright didn’t make it after his showdown with Rowan Pope (Joe Morton) in the Season 3 finale! Actor Columbus Short has confirmed that he indeed will not be returning to the hit ABC drama when it comes back in the fall for Season 4.
Madame Noire broke the news with the following official statement issued from Columbus’s publicist:
“At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble on television today. I would like to first thank Shonda Rhimes for the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast. Thank you GLADIATORS, who have supported me throughout my entire career and of course to ABC and Shondaland for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the Scandal series. I have enjoyed every single minute of it. Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time. For this, I will forever be grateful.”
It’s no secret that Columbus has been going through a bout of troubles in the past month that has made his personal life very public. After a bar fight in mid-March led to a warrant for Columbus’s arrest, things went from bad to worse when his wife, Tanee McCall-Short filed a restraining order against him, claiming he threatened to kill her.
We had an inkling that Columbus was on his way out, unfortunately. During a weird interview on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Columbus kind of let it slip that he was blindsided by his table read, making us assume he was killed under orders of Liv’s dad
“What happened [is] the producers came to me at the table read and said ‘You gotta work tomorrow’ and said ‘This is what you got to shoot’ and I was like ‘What?’ But you know what? It’s a beautiful thing,” he said on the radio show, later adding “It’s an incredible thing to be a part of.”
Another telling sign for fans was the fact that most of the characters tied to Harrison’s storyline were offed too — giving us the impression that the recently introduced Season 3 backstory for him wasn’t going to play out after all. At least not with him around.
We can only hope that things get better for Columbus, and that he finds his white hat soon. #NeverForgetHarrison
