Scandal’s Joe Morton Wins Best Guest Actor Emmy

Congratulations to Papa Pope! Joe Morton, who plays Olivia Pope's (Kerry Washington) terrifying father, took home the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a drama during the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday, August 16.

Anyone who saw Scandal Season 3 knows that Joe more than deserved the win. He was tasked with seeming monstrous and sympathetic simultaneously, and he managed to switch back and forth between those modes with ease. And think about all those over-the-top speeches he delivered to perfection! The "boy" monologue alone was worthy of an award.

Still he was facing some tough competition: Paul Giamatti (Downton Abbey), Dylan Baker (The Good Wife), Reg. E Cathey (House of Cards), Robert Morse (Mad Men), and Beau Bridges (Masters of Sex). We're glad he came out on top!

Unfortunately, Kate Burton, who was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress for playing the world's craziest Vice President, did not win her category. Though she lost to Allison Janney, who is pretty amazing in Masters of Sex, so we guess we're not too upset.

Hopefully Joe's big win means that the Academy realizes how awesome Scandal is. We're pulling for Kerry Washington to take home Outstanding Actress in a Drama when the main event airs on Monday, August 25.
