Vanderpump Rules’ Scheana Marie on Her Music Career: My Niche Is the Club Scene — Exclusive

If you’re a fan of Vanderpump Rules, then you know that SUR waitress Scheana Marie has been hard at work launching her music career. She’s already put out two catchy tunes — “What I Like” and “Good As Gold” — but don’t think she’s stopping there!

Season 2 was a big one for Scheana, as she got engaged to longtime boyfriend Michael Shay, dealt with drama in her circle of close friends, and even gave us a riveting rendition of “Good As Gold” at her engagement party. Seriously, this girl’s got it going on!

With another season of the hit Bravo reality show behind her, Scheana spoke exclusively to Wetpaint Entertainment about her musical hopes and dreams, telling us where she sees her niche audience, her goal of releasing an EP in the near future, and which lady from the Real Housewives franchise is her favorite.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Can you give us an update on your musical aspirations? You’ve said you want to go for more of a hip-hop sound rather than pop.

Scheana Marie: We’re actually doing exactly that right now. Shay and James [Kennedy] made a great new beat to a song, we just have to get the lyrics down and my voice on it. I’m really excited for it, because I think it was fun to do a pop song just to do something different, but I think my niche is going to be in the club scene. I know the first song I had [“What I Like”] played at so many — not just gay clubs — but clubs all over.

I think going back to that vibe of music will be something I can get more exposure for rather than a super poppy song.

Would you be shooting for an EP first or going straight for a full album?

An EP first, I think an album is a little too much of a stretch for me right now. I’m kind of just going single by single and seeing how each song does. I’m still trying to figure out my strengths and my weaknesses, it’s all still new to me. I’m not a trained vocal singer, I clearly use autotune in my music. We’re just trying to figure the best route.

The Real Housewives franchise has become known for the ladies putting out singles. Do you have a favorite?

I would say [Real Housewives of New Jersey star] Melissa Gorga. I love her. I’ve met her, she’s a sweetheart, and I adore her husband. She’s in her 30s, she’s a mom, and she’s still trying to pursue her dreams — and I respect her for that.
