School Employee Accidentally Shoots High School Student

ABC 7 News reports that an employee at a high school in Aurora, Colorado, accidentally shot a student on Monday.

The employee, who the school revealed is not a teacher, was getting ready to drive the student home. He was reportedly attempting to store the gun he uses in his second job as an armed security officer in his car's glove compartment when the weapon accidentally discharged and hit the student in the leg.

The incident took place in the school’s parking lot, and the employee acted quickly to rush the student to the hospital. The student underwent surgery and is expected to survive, but police are calling it a "significant injury."

Rangeview High School is located in Aurora, Colorado, where last year's mass shooting in a movie theater took place.

Police are investigating the incident. Because the employee and student know each other, it’s unclear whether the employee will face any charges. The school did not release the names of either individual.
