Sean and Catherine Lowe on How They’re Different Than Other ‘Bachelor’ Couples

Sean and Catherine Lowe are sort of the gold standard when it comes to Bachelor franchise couples.

The Season 17 pair have been happily married for over three years now, adding to their adorable family nine months ago with the birth of son Samuel.

But just because Sean is the only Bachelor to have married his final pick — Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell could change that if they go through with their wedding — doesn’t mean that came without challenges.

After getting engaged, Catherine moved away from her family, friends, and career in Seattle to be with her now-husband in his hometown of Dallas.

“I was living his life and with his friends, so I hadn't developed a group of friends that I could confide in,” she recalls this week to

She adds, “The first year of marriage was the hardest, but once you go through those hardships, you grow, understand each other better and understand what you need better.”

“When you meld two worlds together, naturally there's going to be conflict, hard times and we definitely had some bumps along the way,” her hubby chimes in, acknowledging the huge “sacrifice” she made for him.

However, this realness is what has helped make them the only successful Bachelor couple so far.

The new mom also notes their friendships with other Bachelorette couples who have made it, like Desiree and Chris Siegfried and Ashley and JP Rosenbaum.

“We all have something in common, which is that we just want to be normal [and] make our relationship work,” she reasons.

Part of making things work is sometimes turning to extended family — as Cat did with her mother-in-law, who assured her Sean would make up for the difficult times.

Sounds like he definitely did, from telling her he loves her every day to helping her with any and all baby duties, diapers and all!

Now that the couple has hit “a sweet spot” in the division of labor with their little guy, they’re looking ahead to more kids — lots more.

The Lowes are hoping for five children total down the road. Yes, really!

Before you freak out, it should be noted that at least some of those kids will be through adoption.
