The Originals Sneak Peek: Season 1, Episode 16 — Elijah Confronts Klaus! (VIDEO)

Gah! We cannot wait until tonight’s episode of The Originals, which continues to play out the aftermath of the revelation that Rebekah (Claire Holt) plotted to have Klaus (Joseph Morgan) killed by their father in 1919. This week, Rebekah, Klaus, and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) are all trapped inside of a cemetery and Elijah the only thing keeping Klaus from driving the white oak stake into Rebekah’s heart. The brothers chat in this sneak peek at Season 1, Episode 16 (“Farewell to Storyville”).

“We’ve been at this for hours. To what end?” Klaus asks Elijah. The two are facing off in the cemetery — Klaus with the white oak stake in hand, Elijah with a look of disappointed indignation on his face.

Elijah reminds Klaus that he isn’t his normal opponent: “Niklaus, I know you and I grew up fighting you. I can’t be beaten, nor can I be persuaded. You cannot get past me.” We see Rebekah pacing in a nearby tomb as she listens to her brothers’ conversation. She looks pretty nervous.

“I could get past you,” Klaus says, and we love how childish he sounds in that moment. “Although it might have to be over your dead body. You did stab me with that blade, forcing me to endure hours of unspeakable pain. Perhaps I should direct my rage toward you.” He points the white oak stake (and his arguably equally deadly glare) at Elijah.

But Elijah isn’t afraid of his brother. “You should see yourself,” Elijah says. “The murderous expression. The self-righteous posturing. You look like father.” Klaus does not like that particular criticism, but it is kind of apt. Well played, Elijah. Cue Klaus’ teary-eyed vulnerable face that makes this character (and actor) oh-so-compelling. Even when he’s at his most murderous, we can’t help but pity him when he puts on his “why does no one love me?” face. Break our hearts a little more, Joseph Morgan.

How much longer do you think Elijah will be able to keep Klaus from killing Rebekah? Give your estimates in the comments below!
